Salmon in the fish ladder

DSC07164

H & F intently studying some kind of Salmon at the viewing gallery at the Hiram M. Chittenden locks in Seattle.

People were less than amused when we broke out the fishing rod...

It's a pink year this year ("stinky pinkie" salmon, aka humpback salmon), However, it's a week or two early for them yet, and I don't think there are many runs through Lake Washington, so they are probably Silvers (aka Coho). Silvers are nicer eating than Pinks. Take a trip across the locks and to Fisherman's terminal, where you'll find Chinook's Restaurant, a fairly family-friendly place that serves excellent salmon (and also some of the best crab cakes you'll find).
