HD Photo Standardization

CNET News.com reports that Microsoft will submit HD Photo to a standards organization.

Why's that a big deal?

1. Because HD Photo provides good image compression and supports high bit-depth color at the same time.

2. Because putting your data into a format that is interoperable, and which therefore doesn't lock in your data, is a GoodThing.
